Research
Nothing beats a visit to the club. An alternative to a visit is obviously our social media channels and this website. Everything you need to know before your first flight.
If you want to try out our sport, your first four (4) flights are free. That's the whole first step. Oh yes, sunglasses are a genuinely good idea.

Register
You don't need to own a plane to find out if this hobby is for you.
Register for an instructor-led Saturday afternoon session and fly the club trainer at no cost. An instructor flies alongside you on a buddy-box system until you're ready to take full control - so the learning curve never feels like a cliff.

Ongoing
Join after your four (4) sessions or upfront. Initial training period will be 10 Sessions. Ongoing training and help are always free. Progress is visible. Bronze, Silver and Gold Wings mark real milestones in your flying - not participation trophies, but proof of what you can now do in the air. The club ethos ensures that the person standing at the edge of the field, transmitter in hand, receives encouragement, is included and supported.

Learn To Fly
At the Flight Academy, everyone is welcome — no matter your age, background, or experience level. We're a friendly, close-knit community that loves nothing more than sharing the joy of flight with newcomers, and our members and instructors go out of their way to make sure every visitor feels supported from the moment they arrive. Whether you're curious, nervous, or already hooked, you'll find patient guidance, plenty of encouragement, and a genuinely inclusive atmosphere where questions are always welcome and mistakes are just part of learning. Remember, all training is subject to weather conditions and registration.
What You'll Need
Getting started costs you nothing. Come along and experience the thrill of flying with no upfront investment — we provide a club trainer aircraft and pair you with an experienced instructor who will take you through your first flight, giving you a real feel for the hobby before you spend a cent on your own gear.
After your first four visits, you'll need a few things of your own:

A trainer aircraft — plane (Initial training is with fixed-wing and use of SIM), quadcopter, or helicopter (Requires an alternative approach that is best discussed with Club senior members). Your instructor can walk you through the options and help you choose the right one for your goals and budget.

A transmitter, ideally one that can link to a second transmitter for a buddy box system. The helicopter pilots prefer Radio Master or FrSky transmitters. Spektrum technology is used for fixed-wing training for a buddy box system. FMS is also available. Both Mode 1 and Mode 2 training are offered, with the latter now the norm for most students. The buddy system provides a real advantage while you're learning, since your instructor can take over if needed.

Sunglasses — highly recommended (though optional). They make a big difference on bright days when you're tracking your aircraft against the sky.

Spring Training Session
The final training session for 2026 is scheduled to run from 5th September ~ 28th November inclusive. Some existing students may graduate, permitting additional students to join. The training program enables students to gain skills, pilot competency, and above all else, achievement and joy in controlling a model aircraft.
To register your interest in either "Have a Try" or the Training Block.
Please email the Training Instructor. I will contact you if successful and/or advise you of future sessions.

To get started, please register your interest in attending a "Try & Fly" Fixed-Wing session, designed for participants aged 8+. If you have any special needs, kindly inform the instructor so we can tailor the training to accommodate you. Sessions are held on Saturdays from 12 PM to 2 PM, with all necessary equipment provided. A Parent, Guardian, or Designated Adult must be present during the session. Please note that sessions are subject to suitable weather conditions and availability. Drone & Helicopter tuition is more informative and SIM based.
Multiple students will share training times, creating a relaxed atmosphere with built-in breaks. This downtime is crucial as it encourages camaraderie and helps alleviate stress levels among students. Flying model aircraft is all about fun, enjoyment, and a sense of achievement. The instructor has "Working With Children" and will follow a Learning Plan tailored to the students' ability.
Training is dependent on favourable weather conditions. The ideal scenario includes winds of less than 10 kph and clear skies free of rain or fog. These optimal conditions ensure a safe and effective training experience. Always monitor the weather to make the most of your sessions!
At WyndhamRC, safety is our highest priority. By following established guidelines, flying a model aircraft becomes a safe and enjoyable experience. Students are encouraged to bring sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen for protection. Our training program fosters a secure and inclusive environment, allowing students to gain valuable life skills while achieving proficiency in flying.
